Trading Standards Statistics 2006

The Trading Standards Statistics are a comprehensive guide to the trading standards function within Great Britain, detailing expenditure, staffing levels, numbers of risk businesses and enforcement actions carried out.

Net Expenditure on the provision of the Trading Standards Service in Great Britain for 2006-07 is estimated to see a 3.6% increase from 2005-06 with net spend expected to reach 202.6m or 3.46 per head of population. Whereas expenditure is increasing, staffing levels in 2006 have fallen by 2.0% over the previous year to more than 4,400 FTE staff, the first drop in overall staff levels for six years.

The proportion of businesses in high risk categories continues to decrease. Every class of authority where records are available has seen a fall in each of the last four years, which represents a very encouraging trend.

Environmental Health Statistical Profile: 2006-07 Actuals

The Environmental Health profile offers you a powerful comparative snapshot of your authority against a selected group of other authorities. In addition to your own data and your class average you can be compared to a selected group of your own choice. A group of up to 20 authorities may be of your own choosing, or a top 20 generated by our nearest neighbours model.

The profile shows five year trends for expenditure & income and staff numbers. Also analysis of enforcement action, pest control visits & dwelling stock per '000 population and a breakdown of net expenditure on core functions against selected comparators.

Environmental Health is a diverse function that includes certain core functions that aim to 'prevent' the breakdown of public Health and safety. The publication includes both financial and non-financial data covering a range of activities including housing standards, pollution and noise control and licensing.
