The Waste Collection and Disposal Statistics 2004-05 Actuals is now available to download from this website.

In 2004 CIPFA estimated that at least a threefold increase in recycling expenditure was needed over the next five years in order to achieve the aspirational targets set by government. Encouragingly both capital and revenue spending appear to be rising backed by an increasing array of funding opportunities available to local authorities. Government revenues from landfill tax provide grant funding through the Waste Minimisation and Recycling Fund and the Waste Management Performance Reward Fund.

This publication aims to portray a general picture of local authority run / administered crematoria in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Information is shown detailing the operational aspects of the service provided as well as expenditure and income. Details were requested from 190 crematoria, of these 138 completed the questionnaire.

Agriculture generally is currently experiencing significant change, primarily as a result of reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy. The County Farms Service is not immune from this; indeed, on small tenanted farms, financial pressures are often at their most acute

The continuing decline in the number of farms reflects ongoing estate rationalization initiatives to create more commercially viable units and, by so doing, establish a modern 21st Century service

The relatively significant decline in the overall operational surplus from the previous financial year graphically illustrates the impact of financial pressures resulting in a reduction in income, primarily from rents, of 3.26%

Nevertheless, optimism remains and Councils, estate managers and tenants alike continue to explore creative ways in which the full potential of estate assets can be exploited to the mutual advantage of tenants and council tax payers.

Trading Standards Statistics 2005

Net Expenditure on the provision of the Trading Standards Service in Great Britain for 2005-06 is estimated to see a 4.5% increase from 2004-05 with net spend expected to reach 196.4m or 3.38 per head of population.

Whereas expenditure is increasing, staffing levels have remained fairly constant with just a 0.3% increase in 2005 over the previous year, to almost 4,500 FTE Staff. The proportion of businesses in high risk categories meanwhile continues to decrease.

Every class of authority where records are available has seen a fall in each of the last three years, which represents a very encouraging trend.
